Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report
November 15, 2010

1. Upcoming School Contact

Euro Space Center (ESC), Transinne, Belgium has been scheduled for an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact on Tuesday, November 16 at 19:42 UTC via telebridge station VK5ZAI in Australia. ESC is a Space Expo, which is open to the public, as well as a Space Camp for youth. Amateur radio club station ON4ESC is located in the auditorium and VHF/UHF tracking antennas are permanently installed on a tower. Twenty-four English speaking students, ages 10-14 from the International School Zurich North (Switzerland), attending the Space Camp, will participate in the ARISS contact. 

2. St. Louis Charter School Contact Successful

On Thursday, November 11, an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact was held between astronaut Shannon Walker, KD5DXB and St. Louis Charter School, St. Louis, Missouri. The school integrated the ARISS contact into its science curriculum covering the solar system, space exploration and space missions. Students took part in several hands on activities and research papers to prepare for the contact.  

3. Amateur Radio Newsline Covers ARISS

On November 12, the Amateur Radio Newsline Report 1735 ran an ARISS news item under the heading Ham Radio in Space. "Astronauts Take Part in Ground Based ARISS Training Exercise" covers the simulated contacts that Joe Acaba, KE5DAR and Aki Hoshide, KE5DNI participated in with students from Ralph McCall School in Alberta, Canada.
